[Your Color Style] New March Guides, Who are you dressing for? and more...
Published: Sun, 03/01/20
Happy Sunday!
I hope you're having an amazing weekend. I've been hustling to get ready for my TV segment on Good Morning Washington. I'm live between 9 and 10am EST on Tuesday. I'll be talking about the new trending colors for Spring/Summer with models. I'll send a link for you all to see once it's aired.
Yesterday, Joe and I were getting ready to go out for lunch and then visit a winery. I decided I wanted to look extra nice, so I pulled out this black jersey material dress. I thought, Joe likes me in black. So, I put that on with black stockings and black knee high boots. Wrapped a camel brown giraffe print scarf around my neck and went downstair. I later learned that Joe thought I looked great, but in that moment I wasn't getting the response I wanted. I quickly got discouraged, went back
upstairs and put on a peach sweater with jeans and white sneakers. I told Joe I just wasn't feeling it.
As we were sipping wine at one of our favorite wineries, Joe asked me why I had changed my clothes. I told him that I was disappointed in his lack of enthusiasm and just didn't feel good in the outfit. Joe then said something that was really eye opening for me. He said, "I thought you looked great. But you didn't own it. You were dressing for me and not for you. That's what I saw when you came downstairs. You walked unsure. If you had dressed for you and owned your look. And was like I'm
wearing this. I feel good. I would have been like WOW."
Yeah... my husband is amazing. He's 100% right. I was dressing for him, not for me. How often do we do this? I don't like to admit this, but I'm pretty sure I dress for other people all the time. It's when I dress for me and I like how I look that I really walk tall and feel amazing. But I definitely catch myself editing what I'm wearing thinking about who will see me and what they might think.
I'm sharing this with you because I want you to know that it's ok to not be perfect. I'm not perfect. We're human. Learning to accept yourself and to dress for YOU is an ongoing process. We are works in progress. I'm learning right along with you. Self awareness is key to change. Start to challenge yourself when you get dressed. Why are you choosing that top? Is it because you love it and you like how it makes you feel. Or it's ok but your partner loves you in it. Pay attention. Take
notice. None of this is wrong... just be sure to take care of you.

HOW you wear a signature set of colors that LOVE you
as much as you love them.
A few years ago, I found myself divorced, grieving over losing my oldest daughter and truly lost. I had forgotten what it was like to have true joy in my life. Did I ever really know? I didn't know who I was or what truly made me happy.
As I went through the process of learning about myself, I founded Your Color Style. Identifying the colors that make you feel amazing is a simple step you can take to build your confidence. Color transformed my life. It is now my mission to help you get through whatever transition is going on in your life through color.
