[Your Color Style] 🤗Behind the scenes - a personal note from Jen
Published: Mon, 09/14/20
Dear beautiful reader,
Â
Yesterday, I sent out a link to a survey to help me craft a new program for you. The response has been overwhelmingly positive with LOTS of amazing and heartfelt feedback. Thank you truly for taking the time to offer your thoughts. It means so much to me.
Â
Within the sea of feedback, there was one brave soul who told me something brutally true about myself. It stung, but it was absolutely true. I want to address her feedback with all of you.
Â
"I think you have a creative mind that likes to explore new things and endeavours. It gives you energy and maybe lifts you up. As a longtime customer the effects can feel disheartening. I’ve invested time and effort in Facebook groups that disappeared because you moved on to something new. Colour swatches, courses left unfinished when a new one begun, the next best colour swatches, another new Facebook group. At the moment the publications that go with the $5,- membership are becoming
less and less. It feels like the things you so enthusiastically promoted quickly don’t matter anymore"
Â
She's right. Awesomely right. I acknowledged this about myself and changed how I operated Your Color Style this year. For those of you that only know me this year, you may not understand where she is coming from. But I know exactly where she is coming from, and perhaps other long time followers feel the same but just never told me.
Â
I'd like to explain what I've been working on behind the scenes. I never shared this with you because it's not glamorous but perhaps will give you some confidence in me. Based on feedback, I know that I have created too many similar programs and products. Creations of bright ideas that started causing confusion. I got over ambitious with all the things I wanted to do for you. The problem is, I get so ambitious and take on more than I expected and at some point have to make some hard
decisions. Or, a product or program simply flops. No one is interested. And I have to discontinue it. Last year, around this time, I took a long hard look at what I had created. And there is a lot of GOOD in the community that you have helped me grow. I knew, that in order to server you better, I needed to clean up.
Â
You may not have not noticed, but there have not been any new programs or products this year. I have been focusing on improving what we have and removing the redundant products. And creating good content for you that I hope helps.
Â
The ColorStyle Membership hasn't changed and the members still get 2 or more guides each month. I'm not sure why the comment was made that there are less and less guides. I know we were late this month, which killed me, but we improved the trending guide tremendously. So, I hope you forgive me. There's still a third guide coming to you this month and then two new at the start of October.Â
Â
There have been no new physical products this year. I so wanted to. Oh my goodness... I have so many ideas. But I had to get real with myself. Is a new product what you need right now? And the answer was no. So, I tabled those ideas. Ignoring the bright shiny object that flashes at me often.
Â
The Color Guides are being updated. There were vast inconsistencies between the color guides and the color fans. Because I kept focusing on new products, the older ones were neglected. Which isn't fair to you. So, we've been cleaning those up behind the scenes.Â
Â
The color palette cards are going away. This is a change I need to make from a business perspective. I love these cards, along with the signature cards I created. But the reality is, they are not selling enough to sustain the cost of production and fulfillment. Sometimes, I have to let go of a product in order to fuel stronger areas of my company.Â
Â
There are a couple online programs that need some love. I'm not sure what to do about them yet, but they have some amazing content. Again, I'm focusing on improving and cleaning up what I already have.
Â
This year has been all about cleaning up, and going with the Less with excellence is far better than more with mediocrity.
Â
I made some mistakes this year. I'm going to make more. There is no one-size fits all rule book on growing a business. Especially one as unique as this. I created a color challenge FB group that I fizzled on. I didn't have the bandwidth. (yes, I should have recognized that sooner) and it was too similar to the main group. You all were already doing challenges. It just didn't make sense to have two.Â
Â
I am still here. Learning. Evolving. Making some hard changes. Yes, I have made some errors in judgement. I own it. I know it. I am truly sorry if this has caused you pain or frustration in anyway. But please know that I am human. I am learning from my mistakes. And just about everything I do and create is for you. I love you all so so much. I can not express the amount of gratitude and love I feel for you.
Â
Thank you for your feedback. Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for your enthusiasm for the new program. I've already committed to myself and to you that this program will not open up for registration until it is 100% complete and then some. You deserve my full attention, excellent quality products and all the good things that are coming your way.
Â
Thank you for reading.
