[Your Color Style] 🌈Color Analysis, Focal Point and more
Published: Thu, 08/05/21
Hello and happy Thursday!
We are having the interior of our house painted. We chose a pale grey for the main floor which includes the kitchen. Grey is just about impossible to get right. It looks blue in the kitchen, but perfect everywhere else. So, now, we have a light blue kitchen which we don't like. Ugh. So, we changed the grey going up the stairs into the hallways and that grey has a purple undertone. It's really pretty and I like it BUT the transition from
the downstairs grey to the stairwell grey is weird. GREY! I love it but different lights produce completely different colors. It's crazy.
The Focal Point
When pulling an outfit together, you want to aim for a single focal point. Where do you want a person's eyes to go first? You can also think of it as "Where do you NOT want a person's eyes to go?"
A person's eye will automatically go to the area with the highest contrast. You only want one focal point. Multiple focal points will create a look that feels off. Even if you didn't intend on a focal point, you have one in your outfit. You may just not realize it.
An all white/light outfit with a dark belt will draw the eye to your waist. Or dark shoes draws the eye to your feet and perhaps away from a less desirable feature. Or a statement necklace of rich colors will draw the eye to your chest and away from your lower half. Just pick ONE focal point.
If you are wearing all medium tones with very low contrast but your hair is very dark or very light, your hair will become the focal point.
When wearing bright colors, it's easy to assume that the eye is drawn to the bright color, but in fact, the eye is drawn to the area of highest contrast. So, if you have a bright pink top and jeans. The line where the top and jeans meet is where the eye will go. Unless you create a higher contrast focal point with a black necklace, jacket or shoes. If the hem line is the highest contrast make sure that's where you want the eye to go. This can visually widen that area.
Have fun with this. Once you're dressed, look and see where the highest contrast is. It doesn't have to be high contrast, just the greatest contrast. If you are well all light colors, it may be where the cream and grey meet. If you realize it's all the same lightness or darkness, then look for a brighter color next to a more muted color. That is also an area of contrast. And if you there doesn't seem to be any focal point, create one!
Mint is a medium green blue. It is a universal color and can be worn whether you have cool or warm undertones. Bright individuals can wear this color best.
I'm not going to list them here because everything is explained in detail on the sign up page.
